Social network...Great tips and very nicely written! Social networking will soon become the most effective way of building your professional career and creating a personal brand. However, one will have to invest time in learning the effectiveness of these sites and ways to use them properly.

By the way, I am new to LinkedIn too and have found this resource quite useful. It is a new book called "How to REALLY use LinkedIn" by networking expert Jan Vermeiren. Check it out, you can find a free lite version at http://www.how-to-really-use-linkedin.com/Nikhil Vaswaninoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22055982.post-4160533065778937542009-07-22T06:18:44.899-07:002009-07-22T06:18:44.899-07:00What I find now is most conferences I attend I alr...What I find now is most conferences I attend I already have relationships with people due to creating connections with them on twitter (even if I haven't meet them f2f).

But I have to confess am still a bad LinkedIn person. I suppose I really should make time to clean up may brand image inside LinkedIn? Wonder if I could pay someone to do it? :)Sue Watershttp://theedublogger.edublogs.org/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22055982.post-79825431651829481922009-07-22T01:27:30.338-07:002009-07-22T01:27:30.338-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anand Rajendranhttp://elearning-indya.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22055982.post-88752071751814195772009-07-21T12:21:02.289-07:002009-07-21T12:21:02.289-07:00Denise - great points! I should have mentioned that.

And I'm completely with you on that different feeling when you have pre-networked with them. There's something awkward for me to go up to someone cold.

And like you, after a couple of cold introductions - my energy level is such that I don't really want to do that more. Whereas, if I've pre-networked, its much easier and I don't let the opportunity slip away.

Thanks again for your contribution. I hope everyone reads your comment.Tony Karrerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15408035995182843336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22055982.post-63614586252279703792009-07-21T11:59:08.033-07:002009-07-21T11:59:08.033-07:00Thanks for this article.

I also sent a regular, old-fashioned e-mail to one of the presenters (their contact info is usually more readily available than that of attendees).

I'm not exactly shy, but pre-networking helps me to approach the person ("I'm Denise, I promised you a cup of coffee...") When I don't take this step beforehand, I tend to let opportunities slip by rather than assert myself in the moment.Denisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04976063139887594920noreply@blogger.com
